VERITAS, in Latin means 'The Truth'
Vijaypur School started a quarterly magazine in a form of newsletter sometime in the year 1987-88.The first editorial was under the auspices of Raymond Peter D'vas, who at that time, was English teacher at VBHS. He named the magazine as VERITAS. It can be retrospected that he wanted this newsletter to depict the truth. Bijay Hang Subba from the first batch and Adhitee Maskey from the second were the editors for the English section, and Chakra Tamang, first batch, was the editor for the Nepali section.
Later on, for some reason, the magazine couldn't sustain for the reason we don't really know. Presumably, it could have been a financial one.
Few years down the road, the school already had few batches that had passed their SLC and were performing a variety of social VAA activities in Dharan. Amongst them, four alumni namely Anup Halwai, Binod Rijal, Chakra Tamang and Noren Limbu from the first batch came up with an idea of giving sustenance to VERITAS with a belief that this would provide platform to young VAA writers, and also meanwhile hoping that this would generate capital for other VAA activities. This went on for a while but couldn't unfortunately continue because of two impedimenta- Funds and circulation.
About two years later, Binod Rijal who was, at that time, studying Literature at Mahendra Multiple Campus in Dharan began a wall magazine in the campus premise with the same name, VERITAS. The wooden-board was sponsored by Vijaypur Alumni Association and the articles that were posted there were contributed by VAA members. The write-ups were handwritten and in very short time the wall magazine became popular among many folks. Both the authorities from Vijaypur School and Campus consented the maneuvering.
However, the Campus doesn't have that magazine anymore because VERITAS didn't find any volunteer to do the job.
Come 2006, few Vijaypur School Alumni living in Dallas USA came up with the brilliant idea of starting up a website for Vijaypur Alumni Association. Incidentally enough, Chakra Tamang and Binod Rijal from first batch happened to be in touch with Mukunda KC who has been doing Computer Science at UTD, They advised him to add one more tab in the website for VERITAS so that it could be brought back to life again.
So, folks here is a forum that you can use for expressing yourself, Please do send emails with articles to admin@vaaonline.com and VERITAS shall thrive once again.
